As some of you might know on stream, I’m currently in love with the song “beautiful mistakes” by Maroon 5. But what does that have to do with this update? Are we making a baby? 😳
No! We’re making a pure and innocent cocktail of course! I’m a bartender now after all. 😛
I recently came across this reel with a cocktail recipe called the “beautiful mistake” and its story fits my experience as a bartender so well that I felt I had to learn how to make it. But it turns out this is not its original name, it’s originally an Italian cocktail called a negroni sbagliato.
The negroni sbagliato, which means “mistaken negroni or negroni mistake,” supposedly was accidentally invented when a bartender mistakenly (sounds familiar 🤔) used prosecco instead of gin to make a classic negroni. This mistake turned into a popular variation because sometimes, mistakes can lead to wonderful discoveries.
I’m still going to call it a beautiful mistake though. 😤
Ingredients
- 1 part Campari
- 1 part Sweet Vermouth (preferably red)
- 1 part Prosecco (or other dry sparkling wine)
- 1 Orange twist or lemon peel for garnish
- Ice
Preparation
- Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice.
- Pour the Campari and sweet vermouth over the ice.
- Gently fill up the glass with Prosecco. The key here is to maintain some of the fizz, so pour slowly.
- Stir gently to mix the ingredients slightly without losing too much of the sparkle.
- Garnish: Add an orange twist or lemon peel.
Enjoy!
That’s it! Enjoy it, it’s a super simple drink but it’s nice and refreshing with a fun story so I hope you try it at home when you have the chance!
Meanwhile I will do my best to learn more cocktails and learn from my mistakes. 📝
