Hazu and the Classic Cars

Because I skipped the right time zone last week, I promised to do an additional stream this week.

Ama site park had a classic car exhibition event on that day so I thought the car nats (viewers) would love to see some vintage Japanese cars as they might not be that common overseas.

Bakery

But first, I wanted to go get some bread as I had been craving that since the day before.

The plan was to get some bread, have a picnic and then go see the cars.

But of course they close on the one day I go. 😡

So I got a croquette at the shop next-door to satisfy my stomach while looking for another bread shop.

At the next bread shop, I got a croissant. I originally wanted to get a pain au chocolat but I wasn’t craving it at the time.

With the croquette and bread obtained, I headed to get curry but the shop wasn’t open yet.. 😒

So I was left curryless and had to accept my croquette and croissant picnic before the event opens.

Luckily I did get a 40 cm (15.7 in) long churro while looking for the car show though.

Romantic picnic?

Before sitting down for the picnic, I went to see where the car exhibition was but it seemed almost empty. I crossed my fingers and hoped I found the wrong spot.

The churro was excellent and the croquette was delicious. For some reason there was no vending machine nearby to quench my thirst though. They’re everywhere in Japan but they were nowhere to be seen at the picnic spot.

We discussed about what’s appropriate to teach to kids and what should be left for older teens especially when it comes to teaching them about dangers and bad behavior while I devoured everything. What do you think the line between being educational and an adult’s responsibility to keep them from learning some things too soon is?

Once I was done, I headed towards the car exhibition while getting distracted by the Starbucks Merry Berry Strawberry Frappuccino and the food carts on the way. Everything seemed so delicious but I had to get a drink and take care of my budget.

The vending machine ended up being at the very end of the park so I was saved by the tea.

The classic cars

After being getting hydration, I finallywent to the classic car exhibit.

There are 2 parking lots at Ama site park and the smaller lot was where the exhibit was actually happening so the “small car show” I saw earlier was just the attendees. I didn’t find out until the time we left though. 🤫

It turns out we could vote for one of the cars as the best one at the show. Every car has a number sheet on the window to identify them which you can vote for near the entrance. Too bad I don’t know enough about cars. 😅

But there’s one car I can tell you about!

A Daihatsu Midget which Hazu explains was an iconic car from Sanchome No Yuhi, a movie from her mom's generation.

This 3 wheel car is famous from San-chome No Yuhi (Always: Sunset on Third Street) which is a movie set in my mom’s generation so she loved it.

I went back & forth with chat but we ended up agreeing on voting for the Honda NSX #38 because it was the coolest looking car.

We’re just gonna pretend this car won the vote yeah?

Sadly, the vote count was gonna be unveiled after we left and they weren’t gonna put the results on social media so we never got to know which car won… 😢

After-show

Afterwards I passed by the merch store outside the show but there wasn’t anything I wanted to get.

We had the choice between the Starbucks Frappucino or Gelato. Everyone The limited edition Frappuccino won in the end so that’s we went to get.

I saw a paella shop on the way there so I had to get it. I hadn’t gotten the chance to have one since the Spain trip.

We stopped for a second picnic and I remembered that I hadn’t eaten the croissants yet. This new spot had a lot of families so I had to set up in an awkward way as I didn’t wanna be a nuisance to the kids and families sitting around.

The paella was delicious, totally worth it. The Merry Berry Frappuccino was very concentrated, almost like a strawberry milk.

We talked a bit about Empire R (R Teikoku) by Fuminori Nakamura as I’d read it recently and it’s not yet translated to English.

We had a slightly healthy discussion but the kids were nearby so I had to stop. I have to be a responsible adult when I can.

I remembered before leaving that I had bought some croissants and forgot to eat them.

Conclusion

I was pretty worried about this stream cutting off early since I forgot my charger but thanks to your contribution, the new phone managed to handle the whole stream without needing charging.

We still had issues at the end since I disconnected and couldn’t figure out why but otherwise I’m happy things went pretty well.

Did you enjoy the exhibit? It’s been a long time since I got to bring you guys to these events. What exhibits in Osaka would you like to see in the future?
